Good student athletes possess particular traits that make them excel on and off the field. Among the characteristics are a strong academic focus and a commitment to responsibility. Student athletes should develop good study habits early on because their eligibility to play in a game is based on performance in the classroom. Seeking the assistance of a tutor and taking advantage of study hall periods helps student athletes stay on top of assignments. Juggling school and participation in sports may be difficult because student athletes often miss class to travel to tournaments. In this instance, responsible players communicate their absence with their teachers in advance and make arrangements to make up missed schoolwork. They also demonstrate responsibility by managing their time efficiently, so they can turn in their assignments on time, despite any absences related to sports. A committed philanthropist, Cody Saltsman graduated from Steubenville High School. For the past four years, he has held membership in the Key Club. Through this organization, he has assisted with a diverse range of service projects from car wash fundraisers to electronics recycling. Cody Saltsman had served as a senior representative for the Key Club.
This year's Key Club Week will take place from November 3rd through 7th. Members from around the world will join in a variety of activities demonstrating the Key Club's dedication to service. As part of the celebration of this week, the Key Club encourages members to thank any supporters they know and to invite friends to join them. To help members publicize the group, the Key Club offers a public relations manual on its website at www.keyclub.org. The Key Club serves as an international student-led club under the auspices of Kiwanis International. The organization encourages the growth of its members in leadership and service in order to transform the global community. Members commit to upholding the Key Club's mission of caring and becoming servant leaders. A sports enthusiast, Cody Saltsman finds joy in watching and playing sports, especially baseball and football. He understands the importance of Protective equipment designed to prevent injuries.
Football helmets are essential safety equipment. While schools typically supply helmets for the protection of their teams, players and parents should consider evaluating the equipment before using it to ensure it maintains the minimum safety features. For example, a helmet should not be used if the face mask is bent more than one-eighth of an inch. Likewise, a helmet that fits loosely or shows signs of rusting will not provide the necessary protection during practice and play. Furthermore, players should make sure the helmet’s chin strap and jaw pads are adjusted to fit their individual head structure. To ensure that helmets work as intended, coaches should educate players on safe methods of tackling and blocking. This will reduce the likelihood of players butting heads or grabbing facemasks, which can cause severe head and spinal cord injuries. A student at Steubenville High School, Cody Saltsman plays on its football team and enjoys studying astronomy, biology, and chemistry. Active in his community, Cody Saltsman participates in the Key Club and promotes its numerous activities.
Sponsored by Kiwanis International, the Key Club invites high school students to change the world for the better. With the motto “Caring: Our Way of Life,” this international organization provides important leadership, character development, and social opportunities to youths. Through local initiatives, Key Club members can improve their own communities by cleaning parks, running food drives, and volunteering with other service groups. Globally, the Eliminate Project is one of the Key Club’s biggest programs. A joint initiative between Kiwanis International and UNICEF, the Eliminate Project is dedicated to ending maternal and neonatal tetanus. Every year, nearly 60,000 newborns die of the disease, following a short life of sensitivity to light and touch. To eradicate this problem, nearly 130 million mothers in mostly developing countries must receive immunizations. This program requires approximately $110 million for completion, and the Key Club helps raise money toward this goal. Kiwanis International and UNICEF expect the Eliminate Project to rank among its most important successes. High school senior Cody Saltsman is active in a number of school organizations including Key Club. As senior representative, Cody Saltsman is responsible for promoting club activities.
Key Club is a student-led high school association, sponsored by Kiwanis International, that works to build character and leadership skills in high school students across the country. Members of Key Club perform acts of service, such as food and clothing drives, and also gain valuable leadership skills through meeting and event planning as well as holding elected positions in the club. In the summer of 2013, Key Club partnered with Rustic Pathways to inspire students to become more globally aware. The two organizations offered trips, customized to Key Club members, to places like Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Fiji. The goal of the program is to immerse the students into another culture through these educational adventures, and in turn, build strong global bridges that lead to greater world understanding and cooperation. A student athlete, Cody Saltsman has led an impressive football career while attending Steubenville High School. He has won several awards for his athletic achievements, including the Big Red Player of the Game. Electrolytes are important when it comes to staying hydrated while playing sports. Derived from minerals, such as calcium, potassium, and sodium, electrolytes create ions and manages fluid exchanges, encouraging the proper distribution of nutrients and waste products. When athletes get the right amount of electrolytes, their muscles and glands function more efficiently and their performance improves. Drinking beverages like vegetable and fruit juices can help ensure the body receives enough electrolytes. Among fruit juices, athletes should check labels to ensure the beverage is made of 100 percent fruits. In addition, many commercially sold sports drinks contain electrolytes. Certain foods also contain electrolytes, like tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and bananas. If an athlete wants salty or savory foods, pretzels, walnuts, and chickpeas are also good sources of electrolytes. High school student Cody Saltsman invests his energies into his academic work and to numerous civic and charitable causes. A senior representative of the Key Club, a program of Kiwanis International, Cody Saltsman participates in such community activities as canned food drives, meeting with veterans in nursing homes, and recycling projects.
With a mission to provide students around the world with service opportunities, Key Club participates in community transformation, one student at a time. Key Club members pledge to support and serve their homes, their schools, their communities, their nations, and their God through participation in diverse projects, including the Eliminate Project. To end maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) around the world, UNICEF and Kiwanis International combined forces with the Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Project targets the world’s poorest and most marginalized mothers and infants. With grim statistics, such as one baby dying every nine minutes, and 60,000 newborns dying annually from MNT, Eliminate works toward the global goal of immunizing 129 million mothers and their future infants. In addition to vaccines and syringes, this ambitious and worthy goal requires resources such as thousands of skilled staff members and safe storage of vaccines. |
